I am continually surprised by the number of people who panic when is begins to snow or rain on the streets of Halifax.
I understand that driving becomes a little more difficult, visibility might go down, you may have to travel a little slower, but is that really such a big deal? The world does not have to come to a stand-still...it just needs to slow down a little when we have a weather event, people just need to use a little more common sense and make better judgments on the road. I guess that is the problem in that there are so many people that are lacking in the common sense department.
We had a storm back in December that brought the city to a halt in gridlock as people were stalling and spinning out in their cars during rush hour. No doubt, it was an unexpected storm and many people were caught off guard with summer tires on their cars or low tanks of gas during an extra long rush hour. It was just frustrating to see people gunning their engines or trying to do more in their cars than their cars can handle in those conditions. Anyhow...just some rambling...
Tonight, I started my next master's course and it ended early because of the rains we were experiencing. Not that I mind leaving a 2 1/2 hour class early but people were worrying that the rain would turn to freezing rain...the temperature was 9 degrees Celsius....very improbable! It was just rain and a little wind. I suppose having lived in a number of places across the country...I have seen extreme weather when it comes to snow and wind and the maritimes get very little of that with the exception of White Juan a couple of years ago. I enjoyed White Juan....good times. Well...I'm home early and not in class...so I'm happy.
