After Saddam's conviction and sentencing to death by hanging about two months ago, I figured there would be multiple appeals and that the eventual execution would be delayed for an indefinite period of time. In the United States, people who are sentenced to death row can spend decades behind bars.
I was amazed at how earlier in the week, it was announced that the event was imminent and fast approaching. Even with that news, I did not expect it to occur as quickly as it did.
I'm not sure how this event will affect the current situation in Iraq, I don't think anyone truly knows. The day after his death was another day of violence in Iraq but was not more violent than the previous days, but not any less. It was an average day, only 90 or so violent deaths. How sickening is it the media and people in general are becoming immune to the number of deaths occurring in Iraq? This type of violence is happening every day. Thank God that I live in Canada and we must continually remind ourselves and each other how fortunate we really are.
